PHAROAH’S DOCTORS

There are and have always been essentially only two schools of thought when it comes to the healing of the body and or the treatment of the sick; God’s methods and man’s methods. When I refer to man’s methods I am referring to methods of men that have chosen to seek knowledge of healing by involving themselves in methods that contradict the methods that God has laid out to be the foundation of all healing.

Unknown to many; however, the basis of even what’s called “modern” medicine, though not biblical, can be traced back and proven to be spiritual in nature.

According to the biblical record, Moses was originally trained, “in all the wisdom of the Egyptians…” Acts 7:22 Having been adopted by Pharaoh’s daughter, Moses would be royalty and would receive the finest education that Egypt could offer. This no doubt included a medical education.

The early doctors or “physician priests”, of ancient Egypt began healing practices that were world-renowned. Their medical system was developed over hundreds and hundreds of years and gave much toward the advancement of medical science worldwide.

According to Minnesota State University, “The Egyptians were advanced medical practitioners for their time. They were masters of human anatomy and healing…Further, it was not uncommon in both early and later dynasties for scholars from ancient Greece and other parts of the Mediterranean to study the medical practitioners of Ancient Egypt. Of the most notable of these traveling scholars was, Herodotus and Pliny, both Greek scholars, whose contribution to the ancient and modern medical records, reached from the time of Ancient Egypt and into the modern era.[1]

Notwithstanding their great knowledge of the human frame, they believed in the power of the Egyptian gods, and employed Egyptian magic in the treatment of the sick.

IMHOTEP

It is from Egypt that we have the world’s first recorded physician, Imhotep. He was renowned as a great healer and eventually he was worshipped as a god of medicine. Imhotep’s statue stands, today, in the Hall of Immortals at the International College of Surgeons in Chicago.

Here we see the first connection of what is known as modern medicine with the worship of an Egyptian “god”. This fact bears much more influence in the medical world today than many can even begin to imagine.

According to Sir William Osler,  Imhotep was the: "..first figure of a physician to stand out clearly from the mists of antiquity." Imhotep diagnosed and treated over 200 diseases, 15 diseases of the abdomen, 11 of the bladder, 10 of the rectum, 29 of the eyes, and 18 of the skin, hair, nails and tongue. Imhotep treated tuberculosis, gallstones, appendicitis, gout and arthritis. He also performed surgery and practiced some dentistry. Imhotep extracted medicine from plants. He also knew the position and function of the vital organs and circulation of the blood system. The Encyclopedia Britannica says, "The evidence afforded by Egyptian and Greek texts support the view that Imhotep's reputation was very respected in early times. His prestige increased with the lapse of centuries and his temples in Greek times were the centers of medical teachings." [2]

James Henry Breasted says of Imhotep:

"In priestly wisdom, in magic, in the formulation of wise proverbs; in medicine…” he left a notable reputation.[3]

Statue of Imhotep [4]

Imhotep is an example of the "personality cult" of Egypt, “ whereby a learned sage or otherwise especially venerated person could be deified after death and become a special intercessor for the living, much as the saints of Roman Catholicism. About 100 years after his death, he was elevated as a medical demigod. In about 525, around 2,000 years after his death, he was elevated to a full god, and replaced Nefertum in the great triad at Memphis.”[5]

Imhotep’s status was such that, he and the, Pharoah, Amenhotep, were the only mortal Egyptians that ever reached the position of full “gods.”

He was eventually worshiped in Greece where he was identified with their god of medicine, Aslepius, and in Rome as the god, Aesculapius.

The spiritual side of “modern” medicine can be recognized in the use of its symbols. This is not to imply that all physicians are somehow involved in some sinister type of demon-worship, on the contrary, many of them are godly men and women with a desire to help and bring mercy and healing to the needy. Nevertheless, a medical hierarchy has emerged over time that is destructive in its nature, and there is indeed a spiritual and perhaps even a magical element in today’s medicine, for the physicians are taught along the lines of Pharaoh’s doctors and not in the simple methods subsequently revealed to Moses by God.

SYMBOL KNOWN AS CADEUCEUS USED BY THE MEDICAL PROFESSION

In Egypt the medical system developed into a hierarchy.  By the fifth century B.C., Egyptian doctors had their own specialization. Most of the doctors were men and, within their ranks, there was a hierarchy. First there were the Greatest Physicians of Lower and Upper Egypt, followed by the chief medical officer of the land. Under him were superintendents and inspectors of physicians, the chief physicians and, at the bottom, the physicians themselves.

[Egyptian] “Physicians learnt their profession at schools called Houses of Life. They were no doubt given some practical experience, but chiefly they had to study what was already written. They used to administer their treatments in accordance with a written law composed by earlier famous physicians. Medical texts were used not only as a fount of professional knowledge but also as a safeguard against possible failure.”[6]

The priests were the first to practice medicine as some doctors belonged to the priesthood.

STAFF OF AESCULAPIUS USED IN THE MEDICAL PROFESSION

The royal and palace doctors had special hierarchy and titles. These Egyptians doctors became highly specialized. “There was even a degree of specialization quite remarkable for the time. Each physician used to treat one disease, and no more. There were plenty of physicians everywhere. Some were eye-doctors, some dealt with the head, others with teeth or the abdomen, and some with hidden maladies.”[7]

Notwithstanding the many physicians, not everyone could practice medicine. Only members of the high strata of society were allowed to learn and practice this honorable profession.

What kind of remedies was given by the Egyptian doctors? Below are a few examples:

Night blindness was treated by roasted and crushed ox liver.

Another prescription for the eye, to be used for all diseases which occur in this organ is as follows: Human brain, divide into its two halves, mix one half with honey, smear on the eye in the evening, dry the other half, mash, sift, smear on the eye in the morning. Ebers Papyrus
G. Maspero, Etudes de mythologie et d'achéologie égyptiennes III, 1898, p.290.

Headache:  Found in the Ebers Papyrus; 250:  “The skull of a cat-fish  that has been fried in oil. Anoint the head therewith.”

Lesions of the Skin:

After the scab has fallen off put on it: “Scribe's excrement. Mix in fresh milk and apply as a poultice.”

In a nutshell, this is a small example of   the type of medicine taught in the Egyptian schools of the day. Can you imagine the mortality rate from infection etc?

The Medicine of Moses

Having lived in Egypt for forty years as a member of the privileged class, Moses was no doubt trained in these modalities.  However, if one reads the health laws related to Moses by God, they are totally different from those which history testify were taught in the medical schools of Egypt.

The biblical record is that God retrained Moses for 40 years. In other words Moses had to be re-educated in God’s simple methods of healing.

For example, God instructed Moses, saying, “The life of the flesh is in the blood.” This simple but profound principle is well understood by those who are involved in natural medicine. Impure blood is the main cause of disease. If the blood is pure, disease-causing agents cannot live and thrive there. It is the blood that carries nutrients throughout the body to feed and nourish it. Good clean blood equals good health; dirty blood equals disease and sickness.

Such simple methods of treating disease are ridiculed in the “Egyptian” thought medical schools of our day. Powerful and dangerous drugs are introduced which do not cure, but rather burden the system.

DRUGS: THE OCCULT

             ELEMENT

Inasmuch as it can be shown that modern medicine has its roots in the Egyptian medical system, which was in part rooted in the Mystery Schools of Egypt, it is interesting to note what the prophetic book of Revelation says with regard to drugs. It is said of the prophetic kingdom, Babylon, that the entire world would be deceived by her “sorceries”. Revelation 18:23.

The book of Revelation was originally written in Greek, and the word for sorceries as used in this particular instance is, “Pharmakeia”. This word is defined as: “the use or the administering of drugs.”

The implication, at least in part, is that the people would be deceived by the use and the promotion of drug therapy.

Like the awe and hierarchy in the Egyptian medical system (pointed out previously), so it is now. Most people have come to look upon allopathic doctors, primarily those with M.D., behind their names, as “gods” of sorts. But there is a hierarchy within the American Medical Association (AMA) to which the M.D. must answer if he will employ any unapproved treatments. In other words only “Egyptian” thought medicine is allowed, unless otherwise approved by the superiors.

The Federal Drug Administration (FDA) ranks even higher in the hierarchy. They are charged with the task of “protecting” the populace from dangerous drug therapies. However something very strange has been going on for years.

It will be recalled that deception would be involved in this “magical” or “sorcery” based system.

Pharmaceutical companies have completely altered the paradigm of what is health and how to become healthy. The brainwashing message has become: "I have a pain. Take a drug. I don't feel well. Take a drug. I have an abnormal lab test. Take a drug. I can't study. Take a drug. I can't sleep. Take a drug. I can't stay awake. Take a drug."

This is the message from every major medical journal, from big media "health news," and even from public health government policy.

“How did it happen? Here's an example: Eight of the nine experts on a panel advising the government on cholesterol guidelines for the public earned money from drug companies for the recommendations they made. Forming a panel of medical experts with no ties to drug companies, some say, is nearly impossible.

Drug companies spent $2 billion in 2001 on events for doctors -- double the amount spent in 1996. When a medical expert advises the government, we expect his or her recommendations aren't influenced by bribes from drug companies. Unfortunately the pattern of corruption among medical experts funded by pharmaceutical companies has now tainted credibility to the point of public distrust.”[8]

The Associated Press carried an article by Marilynn Marchione detailing the level that some doctors will sink. She wrote, “They led influential medical groups, starred at prestigious meetings, published in top journals and were undisputed giants in their field.

But when these famous doctors advised the government recently on new cholesterol guidelines for the public, something else they had in common wasn't revealed.

Eight of the nine were making money from the very companies whose cholesterol-lowering drugs they were urging upon millions more Americans. Two own stock in them. Two others went to work for drug companies shortly after working on the guidelines. Another was a senior government scientist who moonlights for 10 companies and even serves on one of their boards.”

She writes further, “Conflicts of interest are increasingly common now that two-thirds of medical research at universities is funded by private industry. Twenty years ago, only one-third was… Conflicts also have bedeviled trusted groups like the American Heart Association, which rely on private cash for meetings and activities, and the continuing-medical-education system, which often gives doctors credits for attending drug-company-sponsored talks.”[9]

 MEDICAL GHOST WRITERS

The deception of the “Egyptian” system of health goes even deeper. Some of the papers published in the world’s most prestigious Health Journals, such as the British Medical Journal and The Lancet, it has become known, were actually “ghostwritten” by drug company reps!

In a government investigation in the U.K., One doctor revealed he had been offered a bribe of two years' salary not to publish research on the side effects of a new heart drug which ran "counter to the interests" of the company producing it.”

“Members of the select committee, which [was] investigating the way the pharmaceutical industry operates, said later they were horrified by some of the evidence they took from two panels of experts.”

They were horrified to learn that the drug companies were persuading family doctors to use their drugs “by persuading some of the leading medical experts in the country to put their names to technical reports about trials of new drugs.”

Professor David Healy, head of psychological medicine at the University of Wales, said he had seen suicidal tendencies labelled as "nausea" while aggression verging on homicidal behaviour in children taking prescribed medicines was described as "hostile".

"I have had papers written for me and sent to me," said Professor Healy. He refused to put his name to the articles, which eventually appeared under the name of a specialist from Vienna. He added. "I have been a participant and party to the generation of views favouring newer over older agents [drugs] unaware that the pharmaceutical companies were keeping key safety data hidden."[10]

Imagine your doctor being a party to such a thing, or either being deceived as to the nature of the drug that he is recommending!

FDA AND DRUGS

Let’s consider the drug, Vioxx.  It has now emerged that the FDA knew that the drug was dangerous, yet they let it go forth anyway. One report stated: The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) tried to discredit one of its own experts after he told a US Senate hearing that the FDA had failed to protect the public over rofecoxib (Vioxx)…

Dr David Graham, Associate Director in the FDA's Office of Drug Safety, said that the FDA was "incapable of protecting America against another Vioxx." He also indicated that five other drugs currently on the market may be endangering patients.

Dr Graham led a study that looked at the cardiovascular risks in patients taking rofecoxib (Vioxx). This was to have been published in the Lancet but was pulled at the last minute after Dr Graham had a warning from his supervisor about publication

“Fearing for his job, Dr Graham sought the help of the Government Accountability Project, a public interest group that protects whistleblowers in order to promote governmental and corporate accountability.

But the group received another request from an anonymous whistleblower at the FDA who was being "bullied" by Dr Graham. The caller also said that Dr Graham's study could reflect scientific misconduct. After some investigation,
the "anonymous" call was found to come from FDA management, attempting to discredit Dr Graham.

Mr. Tom Devine, legal director of the Government Accountability Project said the FDA's attacks on Dr Graham's credibility were implausible.

Something is rotten at the heart of the FDA, adds Dr Kamran Abbasi, acting BMJ Editor. As one of the world's leading drug regulators, the FDA needs to show that its primary role is to protect the public and not to protect industry.”[11]

“The thing that bugs me is that people think the Food and Drug Administration is protecting them -- it isn't. What the FDA is doing and what the public thinks it's doing are as different as night and day." --Dr. Herbert L. Ley, former Commissioner of the FDA

Dr. James DeMeo, Ph.D.,
Director of Research Orgone Biophysical Research Laboratory, writes,  “Increasingly, health care decisions in the USA are being mandated by small cadres of "specialists" who decide whether this or that medication will be made legal and available to the American public. Where scientific evidence once was the criteria for extended use of a new medication, such decisions are today being made more on the basis of the profits which can be made from a particular medication -- too many of the top physician-bureaucrats working in the FDA, National Institutes of Health (NIH), American Cancer Society (ACS), etc. are themselves often drug-company millionaires, with personal stock holdings or investments in the companies whom they regulate. Drug companies provide large sums to political campaigns so as to definitively influence legislation, and to various medical institutes, to "research" their products.”[12]

Indeed what most people think is healing, especially Americans, with regard to disease is not. Even many of the doctors do not know the true effects of a drug on the system.

According to Dr Marcia Angell, former editor of the New England Journal of Medicine:

“The drug companies increasingly design the studies. They keep the data. They don't even let the researchers see the data. They analyse the data. They decide whether they're going to even publish the data at the end of it. They sign contracts with researchers and with academic medical centres saying that they don't get to publish their work unless they get permission from the drug company. So, you can see that the distortion starts even before publication. It starts in determining what's going to be published and what isn't going to be published. This is no longer arm's length. It's treating the researchers and the academic medical centres as though they were hired guns or technicians or something. They just do the work. And the drug company will decide what the data show, what the conclusions are and whether it will even be published." [13]

"Unless we put medical freedom into the Constitution, the time will come when medicine will organize into an undercover dictatorship to restrict the art of healing to one class of men and deny equal privileges to others; the Constitution of the Republic should make a special privilege for medical freedoms as well as religious freedom." Benjamin Rush, MD., a signer of the Declaration of Independence and personal physician to George Washington

Aesculapius the “god” of medicine and it is his staff, which properly represents the physician. Aesculapius staff, is a rough-hewn cypress branch entwined by a serpent

THE TRUE DOCTOR

"It's supposed to be a secret, but I'll tell you anyway. We doctors do nothing. We only help and encourage the doctor within." Albert Schweitzer, M.D.

"The doctor of the future will no longer treat the human frame with drugs, but rather will cure and prevent disease with nutrition." Thomas Edison

A great amount of good can be done by enlightening all to whom we have access, as to the best means, not only of curing the sick, but of preventing disease and suffering. The physician who endeavors to enlighten his patients as to the nature and causes of their maladies, and to teach them how to avoid disease, may have uphill work; but if he is a conscientious reformer, he will talk plainly of the ruinous effects of self-indulgence in eating, drinking, and dressing, of the overtaxation of the vital forces that has brought his patients where they are. He will not increase the evil by administering drugs till exhausted nature gives up the struggle, but will teach the patients how to form correct habits, and to aid nature in her work of restoration by a wise use of her own simple remedies.”

“People need to be taught that drugs do not cure disease. It is true that they sometimes afford present relief, and the patient appears to recover as the result of their use; this is because nature has sufficient vital force to expel the poison and to correct the conditions that caused the disease. Health is recovered in spite of the drug. But in most cases the drug only changes the form and location of the disease. Often the effect of the poison seems to be overcome for a time, but the results remain in the system, and work great harm at some later period.

By the use of poisonous drugs, many bring upon themselves lifelong illness, and many lives are lost that might be saved by the use of natural methods of healing. The poisons contained in many so-called remedies create habits and appetites that mean ruin to both soul and body. Many of the popular nostrums called patent medicines, and even                                                                       some of the drugs dispensed by physicians, act a part in laying the foundation of the liquor habit, the opium habit, the morphine habit, that are so terrible a curse to society.”

“The only hope of better things is in the education of the people in right principles. Let physicians teach the people that restorative power is not in drugs, but in nature. Disease is an effort of nature to free the system from conditions that result from a violation of the laws of health.”

Ellen White

Finally God says: “I am the Lord that

healeth thee.”
