In Part 1 of this topic we saw that there are really two schools of thought when it comes to the treatment of sickness and disease. We saw that there is the Egyptian medical system that has come down to us and is now known as allopathic medicine, and there is natural medicine, known generally as alternative medicine, complementary medicine, etc.
We identified the allopathic medical system, as we know it today, as the medicine of Pharaoh because the popular medical system of today nearly mirrors the medical system of Egypt in many respects. Interestingly enough when Moses was called to lead the Hebrews out of Egypt, notwithstanding his extensive Egyptian education, the Creator found it necessary to re-educate him.
We have seen how the American Medical Association, and the FDA have established a hierarchy and how both frown upon any modalities or treatments that are not accepted by their “scientific” standards. The health plan given to Moses by the Creator was designed to take mankind back to healing and not just treating disease.
The battle between the two systems have gone on for a long time; and most people, having been educated along certain lines, do not even understand why
they think the way that they do regarding health, sickness, disease, doctors, treatments etc. It is simply an issue of being reeducated with the facts.
Someone has said that knowledge is power, and to a great extent this is true. It would stand to reason then, that to be ignorant is to be powerless. Few places is this more evident than in the treatment of sickness and disease.
TWO
SYSTEMS AT WAR
Harvard University trained physician Dr. Andrew Weil, M.D. says, “ I am dismayed at how far apart the fields of medicine and botany have drifted…150 years ago, medicine and botany were very closely allied; today it is almost impossible to find people from those two fields who can converse together and this situation represents the extent to which science and medicine in this century have moved us away from, even created a fear of, nature. But healing is a natural process, so it seems to me the further we move away from nature, the further we move away from healing and knowing how to foster it in people.” [1]
Robyn Landis in her outstanding work, Herbal Defense, points out for instance; that herbal medicine is the primary form of health care for more than 80 percent of the world’s population. She explains that this is not only the case in underdeveloped countries, but also in Europe where much of the modern research on herbal medicines have been conducted.
She explains further: “ A change in the philosophical beliefs and premises of science led to the demise of herbal medicine early in this century. At the turn of the century, natural medicine was well developed, highly respected and relied upon here (U.S.) as much as it was in any part of the world. There were hundreds of institutions and schools that taught methods of natural healing.”[2]
THE CHANGE
Rene Descartes , the seventeenth-century French mathematician and philosopher is largely credited as having shaped the scientific thinking that is today accepted in the west. Descartes’ views and the principles that he introduced formed the basis for the type of science that became entrenched here in America.

Descartes was “educated at the Jesuit college of La Flèche, one of the top colleges of his time [He] lived during the period of the Counter Reformation -- the powerful Catholic reaction to the Reformation. One of the ways in which the Church reacted was the creation of the Society of Jesus -- the Jesuits. One of the primary functions of the Jesuits was education; … La Flèche was the most prestigious of the colleges which the Jesuits established in France

In Descartes mind “bodies were no more than machines governed by fixed laws mechanical laws, science was absolute and certain truth…”[3]
Such is the influence of Descartes that a recent New York Times article associated the decision to allow Terri Schiavo to die with the manifestation of the Descartes mentality.
The Article was entitled: Did Descartes Doom Terri
Schiavo? The Article, stated:
“Beneath the political maneuvering and legal wrangling, the case
re-enacted a clash of ideals that has run through the history of Western
thought… The plea last week to prolong Ms. Schiavo's feeding, against the
wishes of her husband or what courts determined to be her own expressed
inclinations, echoed the teachings of Aristotle, who considered existence
itself to be inviolable.
On the other side, the argument that Ms. Schiavo's life could be judged as not worth living echoed Descartes, the Enlightenment philosopher who defined human life not as biological existence - which might be an inviolable gift from God - but as consciousness, about which people can make judgments.”[4]
Over time Descartes views developed in the medical profession and developed into what has become known as the “doctrine of specific cause”. Dr. Patrick Quilin in the book, Beating Cancer with Nutrition, explains, “Our reigning allopathic medical system has maintained a philosophy that most diseases have a readily identifiable enemy that can be blasted into submission.”[5]
Eventually the thought pattern developed to divorce disease from the organism as a whole, and to relate it entirely to some specific outside cause. Thus it was reasoned that because specific disease symptoms disappear, the body is in a state of health, it has been “cured.” These assumptions have become the basis of what is now known as the “scientific method” in western medicine.
TAKEOVER
OF THE MEDICAL
SCHOOLS
“The fate of conventional medicine, to be driven
by these conceptual models (which thanks to Descartes’ influence, came to be
known as “Cartesian”), was sealed in the early 1900s when according to
Oriental Medicine Doctors Harriet Beinfeld and Efrem Korngold, authors of
Between Heaven and Earth: A Guide To Chinese Medicine
‘…A survey of medical schools was subsidized by
the Carnegie and Rockefeller foundations. Its purpose was to find out which of
the schools would be most interested in promoting “scientific medicine,”
therefore promoting the newly developing drug-and hospital –based technology
industries. The Flexner Report, issued in 1910 by the American Medical
Association following this survey, recommended that financial support from the
foundations be awarded only to medical schools committed to scientific
research based on models developed in the nineteenth century. A therapies not
based on the Cartesian model were considered unscientific and would therefore
be disenfranchised. Only 20 percent of the existing medical schools survived.
The other 80 percent adhered to the “vitalist doctrine,” which asserted
that man assists but nature heals. Naturopathy, homeopathy and herbology were
forced out of the mainstream and relegated to the status of folk medicine.
They were ultimately driven under by lack of funds and political harassment.”[6]
The schools then begin to produce doctors that think in line with the Cartesian thought method. These doctors, over time; like Imhotep, have been exalted to the status of gods in the minds of many people.
Dr. Sharol Tilgener N.D., notes: “ In the U.S. as well as in other industrialized countries, scientists are looked upon by some with the awe and reverence one would give to a priest or shaman. There is often no questioning the researchers’ authority, how the information was obtained, or if there is an ulterior motive behind their research…I am appalled at how easily our society is willing to blindly follow the word of scientists… The research lab is a contrived situation and far-removed from everyday life. Many factors can cause the research to be unrealistic when compared with the daily life of a human…Ulterior motives are possible in the researcher as well as the financial backers of the research…The important thing to keep in mind when reading research articles is to use the information as a building block to understand the larger picture…Do not let it become the whole picture, and always question the motives behind the research.”[7]
It has been pointed out in part 1 of this subject how much of the motive of modern medicine is based upon motives which have very little to do with better health for the populace in general.
The battle between the medicine of moses and
the medicine of moses goes on
Even as you read this, the huge drug industry is urging tighter restrictions on natural supplements while urging more dangerous drugs into the mainstream. A recent USA TODAY article chronicled the following: “Drug side effects and other related health problems reported to the Food and Drug Administration reached an all-time high in 2004, a government estimate shows. The federal agency received roughly 422,500 adverse-event reports from pharmaceutical companies, health professionals and patients, up nearly 14% from the 370,887 reports filed in 2003. A final 2004 total is expected later this year, but FDA officials don't expect it to vary significantly from the estimate. The bulk of the reports comes from drug manufacturers, which the FDA requires to file details of all known adverse events involving their products. Doctors, nurses and patients also file, but their reports are voluntary. As a result, the annual totals are believed to cover only a percentage of the actual number of serious drug reactions and problems.”[8]

Health Journalist, Bill Sardi, writes, “ ‘Unlike drugs, dietary supplements are not approved by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) for safety and effectiveness.’ This quotation from Office of Dietary Supplements, National Institutes of Health, has repeatedly been echoed by the news media. The false assumption is that drugs are far safer than dietary supplements because they have obtained approval from the FDA. This is despite the fact that the biological action of virtually every prescription drug can be duplicated with dietary supplements at less cost and greater safety.”[9]
Notwithstanding the incredible disinformation campaign, engineered to discredit natural medicine as a whole, the people in general are becoming more and more aware that drugs are not the answer to their ailments, and not only that, but also that drugs are also very dangerous.
Bill Sardi writes further in his book The Collapse of Conventional Medicine: “In 1993 the New England Journal of Medicine published its landmark report on the use of alternative medicine by the American population. The report revealed that Americans paid more visits to alternative health practitioners (425 million) than to primary-care physicians (388 million visits). Conventional medicine had lost over half of the market share for primary health services to so-called snake-oil vendors. Americans were visiting alternative doctors for ten top health problems: back pain, anxiety, headache, sprains or strains, insomnia, depression, arthritis, digestive problems, high blood pressure and allergies.”[10]
The beauty of the Medicine of Moses is that it is simple. The Egyptian thought medicine of our time is complex, expensive, dangerous and oftentimes unscientific.
For instance, “Conventional medicine sees diseases
through the eyes of what can be treated, what can be prescribed. Take high
blood pressure for example. One would think that this disease is a drug
deficiency. Even
though there is overwhelming evidence that hypertension can be remedied by
diet and nutritional supplements, physicians keep prescribing diuretics (water
pills), calcium blockers and ACE inhibitors, $33 billion worth of these drugs
annually. But a recent survey found that nearly one in four patients may stop
taking their medications because of side effects and one in three patients
falsely believe their hypertension is under control with medication when it is
not.”[11]
Blood pressure medications themselves have side-affects that oftentimes lead to the prescribing of other medications to offset the problems caused by these medications. These are the problems inherent in the treatment of disease or sickness with any synthetic drug.
The simple and inexpensive prescription of the medicine of Moses for the treatment of high blood pressure would include the increase of water, for chronic dehydration in many people is the underlying cause of their high blood pressure.
It
would include the eating of two bananas per day. Bananas are a rich source of
potassium. In fact a 1999 study showed that two bananas a day, “can
control blood pressure as well
as ACE-inhibitor drugs without the cost and side effects. Two bananas could
lower blood pressure by 10 percent, or about 14-16 points for most patients
with mild hypertension. It has been estimated that a reduction of 2 points on
the blood pressure scale could reduce strokes by 14 percent and coronary heart
disease by 8 percent.”[12]
This is but one example of the many, many alternative methods that are effective, inexpensive and simple.
Finally, we would do well to heed to these words of wisdom:
“There are many ways of practicing the healing art; but there is only one way that Heaven approves. God's remedies are the simple agencies of nature, that will not tax or debilitate the system through their powerful properties. Pure air and water, cleanliness, a proper diet, purity of life, and a firm trust in God, are remedies for the want of which thousands are dying; yet these remedies are going out of date because their skillful use requires work that the people do not appreciate. Fresh air, exercise, pure water, and clean, sweet premises, are within the reach of all, with but little expense; but drugs are expensive, both in the outlay of means, and the effect produced upon the system.”
God Bless,
K.M. Henry M.M.

CANDIDA
(CANDIDIASIS)
Candidiasis is the overgrowth of the yeast organism called Candida Albicans. It is scientifically classified as a fungus. This fungus can cause thrush and vaginal infections, and can spread to any part of the body that is weakened.
Candida multiplies and develops toxins, which circulate in the bloodstream and cause many kinds of symptoms and illnesses, as well as chemical reactions in the body. It can also cause weight gain and help prevent the body from losing unneeded pounds.
Yeast toxins seem to interfere with sugar metabolism in several ways:
It interferes with sugar absorption by the cells. It interferes with the various enzyme systems, which are responsible for mediating all the process of breaking down protein tissues to glucose when energy is needed. It may also impair fat metabolism.
Candida can also produce false estrogen and make the body think it has enough, signaling it to cease production. It also sends messages to the thyroid, making it think it has enough thyroxin, therefore stopping production. These results can cause menstrual irregularities and hypothyroid problems.
The following are some of the symptoms of Candida:
. Fatigue
. Panic attacks
. Sore throat
. Swollen glands
. Bad breath
. Digestive disorders
. Chronic infections
. Constipation
. Thyroid problems . Depression
The overuse of antibiotics is one of the main causes of Candidiasis. Antibiotics are also found in beef, chicken and diary products. A high sugar diet also encourages the Candida growth. Many drugs weaken the immune system and set the stage for yeast overgrowth.
Yeast multiplies rapidly when starch and sugar are consumed. Eliminating sugar, white flour products, yeast breads, cheese, vinegar (distilled), and beer are preventive steps in avoiding Candida.
The body’s hydrochloric acid and pancreatic enzymes help to prevent yeast overgrowth.
The liver is also very important for it is responsible for filtering the blood. When overloaded, it is difficult for it to eliminate the yeast growth. Cleaning the liver and bowels, purifying the blood, and sticking to a healthy diet will improve the liver functions and allow it to do its job in eliminating yeast overgrowth.
“I will praise thee; for I am fearfully and wonderfully
made: marvellous
are thy works; and that my soul knoweth right well.” Psalm 139:14
